Recent news has brought the origin and safety of dog chews into focus. All Alvar Pet chews are made in Finland and contain no additives. Let’s take a closer look at our chew selection!
Durable dog chew: Alvar Pet Elk Chew
Our elk chews are made from sliced, rolled, and dried elk hide. Despite being relatively thin, elk hide is a strong material—making this chew long-lasting even for small dogs with strong jaws, medium-sized dogs, and even larger ones.
Elk hide is an ethical and ecological material. Elk are not farmed: they are not fed, grazed, or housed, and no energy or farmland is used for their upkeep. Elk live entirely in the wild.
Safe chew for puppies: Alvar Pet Reindeer Chew
Alvar's reindeer sticks are sold in packs of five (or value packs of 40), and they’re especially well-suited for puppies, small dogs, and older dogs with less chewing power.
Instead of drying the rawhide whole, it is ground before shaping—making the chew softer and easier to eat. These chews are great for all sizes of dogs, and ideal for puppies learning to chew.
Coming in crunchy: Alvar Pet Fish Chew
Our long-time partner Järvi-Suomen Kalatuote (the source of customer favorites like our Dried Smelt and Fish Topper) called us with news: they had an abundance of zander and pike skins—leftovers too good to waste.
Turns out, their own huskies loved the fish skin when it was rolled and dried. Our office dogs agreed.
Fish rolls are sold in packs of 3. As fish skin naturally varies in thickness, the chew can be given whole or torn/cut into smaller pieces depending on your dog’s size.

All of our chews are made without bleaching or preservatives. They’re free from additives, with a simple, transparent ingredient list that makes them a great fit for sensitive dogs.

All Alvar Pet chews are hypoallergenic: made from a single protein source, with no additives. Game as an ingredient is particularly well tolerated by most dogs.

Alvar Pet’s Finnish dog chews are made in Kokkola and Kissakoski. Our manufacturing partners, Kokkolan Nahka and Järvi-Suomen Kalatuote, source raw materials directly from the surrounding forests (elk and reindeer) and waters (zander and pike).
Because we use wild raw materials, supply isn’t unlimited. Wildlife populations are carefully managed, and increasing demand has made sourcing more challenging. From time to time, our chews may be temporarily out of stock.
