Sustainability has been at the core of Alvar Pet since its founding.

We've built both our products and our business model carbon neutrality in mind. Minimising emissions takes place in every aspect of our operations with the principle of avoid-reduce-change-remedy.

A carbon pawprint has been calculated for each Alvar product, indicating how much greenhouse gas emissions are generated during its lifecycle.

The carbon pawprint is expressed as CO2e, or carbon dioxide equivalent, which describes the climate warming effect of greenhouse gases.

The average emissions of our products is 0.97 kg CO2e/kg

Ingredients have the largest impact on the product's total carbon footprint. We minimise product emissions across its value chain by:

• choosing sustainable ingredients
• producing with renewable energy
• using recyclable and durable packaging materials
• minimising logistics with our "direct-to-dog" distribution model.

Detailed insights of our products' emission sources enables focusing on improvements that have the highest impact, effective and accurate compensation, as well as reliable and transparent communication to our customers.

Finding out the origin of dog food and its ingredients is not always easy. One reason for this is that by law, origins don’t have to be declared.

At Alvar, we believe all pet owners should know where their dogs' food comes from. That's why we share transparently the manufacturing and ingredient origins of our products, while also pushing the industry to do the same.

We source as close as possible: 78.3% of our ingredients come from the Nordics. Unfortunately some ingredients aren't available locally, but we still choose to use them for their nutritional value and health benefits. 1.9% of our raw materials are from outside Europe.
